Building Services

The Village of Lions Bay's Building Department is responsible for regulating the construction, alteration, repair or demolition of buildings and structures within the municipality. The Department enforces health, fire, day care facility, structural and general safety requirements in order to protect and promote the health, safety and well-being of all Village residents.

The Provincial Government, through the Community Charter and BC Building Regulations, has granted municipalities the power to regulate the construction of buildings and structures and the installation of plumbing. Municipalities therefore issue Building Permits as a means of regulating construction to ensure compliance with the applicable Municipal bylaws and Provincial regulations. To ensure that buildings are constructed and facilities are installed in accordance with appropriate regulations, municipalities have also been empowered to undertake inspections.

If you are planning new construction or a renovation it is your responsibility to ensure all planning and construction conforms to the Municipality's Bylaws as well as the province of British Columbia's most current Building Code. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Municipality has implemented new policies and procedures of which all current and prospective owner and contractors need to be aware.
