Bylaw Enforcement

Village of Lions Bay bylaws are in place to develop and maintain a safe and livable environment for all residents. The goal of the Municipality’s bylaw enforcement is not to penalize residents, but to achieve compliance with its bylaws through education and the provision of information. However, it is recognized that in some cases, compliance may require that penalties be issued.

Bylaw Enforcement  is governed by the Bylaw Enforcement Policy which provides guidance to staff and the general public regarding the enforcement of the bylaws and policies of the Village of Lions Bay.

Bylaw Enforcement Officers may be reached at (604) 834-3404 or bylaw@lionsbay.ca.

Generally, bylaw enforcement is complaint based. Complaints must be made in writing by letter or e-mail.

Once a complaint is made, a Bylaw Enforcement Officer will be assigned to investigate the matter. When the investigation is complete, the Bylaw Enforcement Officer may contact you with information about the investigation, whether a violation occurred, and plans for resolution of the matter. Some complaints are easily remedied, while others take more time to rectify.

The information provided when making a complaint will be used to process the complaint and keep the complainant updated on the status of the file. The personal information is collected under the authority of the Local Government Act / Community Charter, and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
