Bylaw Enforcement

Village of Lions Bay bylaws are in place to develop and maintain a safe and livable environment for all residents. The goal of the Municipality’s bylaw enforcement is not to penalize residents, but to achieve compliance with its bylaws through education and the provision of information. However, it is recognized that in some cases, compliance may require that penalties be issued.

Bylaw Enforcement  is governed by the Bylaw Enforcement Policy which provides guidance to staff and the general public regarding the enforcement of the bylaws and policies of the Village of Lions Bay.

Generally, bylaw enforcement is complaint based. Complaints should be made in writing using our online complaint or witness form, after first reading what to do before making a complaint, or by email to bylaw@lionsbay.ca, or by way of letter addressed to Bylaw Services and delivered to the Village Office. If timeliness is an issue, you can also try calling Bylaw Services at 604-834-3404; if you get the voicemail, please leave a message with your name and number and call the Village Office at 604-921-9333 during regular office hours or email reception@lionsbay.ca.

Once a complaint is made, bylaw enforcement staff will review the matter and may contact you for clarification or further information. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Local Government Act, the Community Charter, and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and identity is treated with confidentiality but is subject to the legislation and potential orders from the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
