Coexisting with Wildlife

Lions Bay is the natural habitat of wildlife that impacts solid waste collection, including bears, raccoons and ravens.  To avoid attracting wildlife with solid waste:

  • store all garbage and recyclables inside the house or in a secure enclosure until put-out time
  • rinse containers with a mild soap or vinegar and water solution to reduce odours

Most interactions between bears and humans are caused by garbage. It may be an exciting experience for you but it might be a life-ending experience for bears.  Once accustomed to garbage as a source for food they quickly become a nuisance.  Manage your attractants so that wildlife does not have to be destroyed--bears are now almost never relocated due to poor outcomes when new bears enter a territory.  To learn more check out the WildSafeBC Living With Bears website.
