The Village of Lions Bay is providing residents with an update regarding the Lone Tree Creek Wildfire (V31874), located outside the municipal boundary approximately 800 meters upslope of the Kelvin Grove area.
The small wildland fire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike associated with Saturday's storm. BC Wildfire Service, Metro Vancouver and Lions Bay Fire Rescue (LBFR) responded and are operating within a coordinated unified command structure.
An attempt was made to deploy aerial suppression resources last night; however, low cloud ceiling prevented their safe operation. Ground crews were deployed to undertake suppression activities.
As of 9:45 a.m. today, the situation is as follows:
- Minimal overnight fire growth has been observed, with no significant extension beyond the established fire area.
- The Evacuation Alert remains in effect for more than 35 homes within the identified Oceanview Road and Kelvin Grove Way interface areas.
- Residents affected by the Alert have been contacted directly and should remain prepared should conditions change.
- LBFR remains prepared to deploy its Structure Protection Unit (SPU) should the residential interface or critical infrastructure become threatened.
- Metro Vancouver and BC Wildfire Service continue active suppression and monitoring operations, including helicopter suppression and ground crews as conditions permit.
- Lions Bay Search and Rescue, Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) South Coast Provincial Regional Emergency Operations Centre, and Village Emergency Management continue to support the coordinated response.
- There is currently no change to the Evacuation Alert.
The fire remains under active suppression and monitoring. Residents are asked to remain aware but should be assured that significant resources are engaged in responding to the incident.
The Village will communicate any significant change in fire behaviour, evacuation status, or threat to the community as soon as information becomes available.
Residents within the Evacuation Alert area should remain prepared and continue to follow official Village communications including via the Alertable App.
